The G7 special meeting in The Hague 2014 took place from March 24th to 26th, 2014. It took place on the sidelines of the Nuclear Safety Summit to coordinate responses to Russia's annexation of Crimea .

To the prehistory

The Obama administration had sentenced on March 1, "Russia's military intervention on Ukrainian territory" as a "clear violation of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity".

US President Barack Obama had telephoned Russian President Vladimir Putin on March 1, 2014, that the US would withdraw from all G8 meetings. The following day the British and French governments announced the same.

The then US Secretary of State Kerry said on March 2, 2014 that there would be no G8 summit if the events in Crimea continued like this.

The 40th G8 summit was planned for June 4-5, 2014 in Sochi .

The special meeting

All G8 heads of state except Russian President Putin attended the special meeting. These seven countries (see box) had already cooperated from 1976 ( G7 summit in San Juan 1976 ) to 1988 ( G7 summit in Toronto 1988 ); From 1998 to 2013 the G8 met and cooperated.

The special meeting ended with the G7 Declaration from The Hague .

The heads of state of the G7 decided to "suspend their participation in the G8 until Russia changes course and an environment is created again in which the G8 is able to hold meaningful discussions."
