The G7 summit in Taormina was the 43rd summit of the leaders of the Group of Seven . The meeting took place under the chairmanship of the Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni on May 26th and 27th 2017, the venue was the city of Taormina on the east coast of Sicily .

Three topics were in the foreground at the summit:
- Foreign and security policy issues against the background of current crises in the MENA region and sub-Saharan Africa , for example the civil wars in Syria and Libya or the hunger crisis in East Africa . Dealing with migration movements, such as the refugee crisis that began in 2015 with Europe as its destination, and the fight against international terrorism are also of importance in this context .
- The implementation of the goals for sustainable development anchored in the 2030 Agenda .
- The digital revolution and its effects.
Trivia
In the Greek theater of Taormina the heads of state and government attended a one-hour concert by the orchestra of La Scala in Milan. Before the concert, the group photo of the summit was taken in the theater. The Trump couple stayed in the Hotel Timeo, which was built next to the Greek theater. On the morning of May 27, 2017, a meeting of the G7 took place with representatives of the African countries Tunisia, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Niger, Kenya and Guinea. The G7 summit in Taormina was the first G7 summit that decided to include the statement of dissent in the final joint communiqué. There was no agreement between the USA and the other six states on climate policy. After "very tough negotiations" (Merkel), a compromise was reached in trade policy.
