G7 summit in Toronto in 1988
The G7 summit in Toronto in 1988 was the 14th conference of the G7 group , which took place between June 19 and 21, 1988 at the Metro Toronto Convention Center in Toronto, Canada .
Participants of the unofficial forum of the seven richest industrial nations were hosted by Canada with Prime Minister Brian Mulroney , France represented by François Mitterrand , Federal Republic of Germany represented by Helmut Kohl , Italy represented by Ciriaco De Mita , Japan represented by Noboru Takeshita , the United Kingdom represented by Margaret Thatcher as well the United States represented by Ronald Reagan .
The summit should highlight the differences between its members and provide mutual support for difficult economic decisions. The summit proposed certain easing of the repayment terms for developing countries, the so-called Toronto terms. These were further developed at the 1994 summit in Naples .
