history

The place was first mentioned in 1276 as Gaban . Since 1378 part of the village belonged to the Poor Clares in Stary Sącz . The Poor Clares bought the whole village in 1604.

After the First Partition of Poland , Gaboń became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).

In 1783, in the course of the Josephine colonization, German colonists of Catholic and Reformed denominations were settled. The community of the village was not separated, but the name of the German colony was also used as Deutsch Gaben . The Protestants belonged to the parish in Stadła . By the end of the 19th century, the colonists' descendants were Polonized. In 1900 the village of Gaboń had 794 inhabitants in 120 houses, all of them Polish-speaking, 757 Roman Catholic, 5 Jews and 32 of other beliefs (mostly Protestant).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Gaboń came to Poland. This was interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II , during which it belonged to the Generalgouvernement .

From 1975 to 1998 Gaboń was part of the Nowy Sącz Voivodeship .

In 1991 part of the village was separated as a new Gaboń Praczka Schulzenamt .
