The Gabriella is a ferry that Viking Line operates between Helsinki and Stockholm . The ship was built in 1992 at Brodogradilište Split as Frans Suell for the Euroway shipping company . Between 1994 and 1997 she drove as Silja Scandinavia for the Finnish shipping company Silja Line .

history

The Frans Suell was ordered in 1991 as the first ship of the newly founded shipping company Euroway. Its basic design is based on the Amorella from Viking Line , but additional cabins have been installed at the expense of the passenger areas. During the construction of Frans Suell in the then broke Yugoslavia of the Civil War and the ship suffered some damage from shelling. However, the ship was able to be completed despite the war. It was handed over to Euroway on May 5, 1992 and then used on the Travemünde - Malmö route. In September 1992 Lübeck was added as a further port on the route. In 1993 Euroway entered into a partnership with Silja Line, which resulted in Silja Line Euroway . During the summer season, however, Lübeck was deleted from the timetable in order to enable a faster traffic sequence between Travemünde and Malmö. In order to make the route more interesting for passenger traffic in the winter of 1993/94, the route was extended to the ports of Lübeck - Travemünde - Malmö - Copenhagen . The service from Silja Line Euroway was then discontinued on March 12, 1994.

After the end of Euroway, Frans Suell was chartered to Silja Line and renamed Silja Scandinavia . The ship was now used on the Stockholm - Mariehamn - Turku route. The competitor Viking Line , which already owned the two sister ships Isabella and Amorella , also showed interest in the ship, but was not prepared to pay the required purchase price. However, towards the end of the charter period in 1996 , the Silja Scandinavia was sold to Viking Line by Silja Line and handed over in 1997.

After being renamed Gabriella , it was used on the Helsinki - Stockholm route. Since 1999 Mariehamn has also been called as a stopover.

future

As part of the redesign of the Viking Line traffic, the cabins and restaurant areas will be renewed over the next few years.
