The Galaxy is a ferry of the Cypriot shipping company European Seaways , which was commissioned in 1979 as Silesia for the Polish Polferries .

history

The Silesia was built under the hull number B490 / 02 as the first of five sister ships in the Szczecin shipyard in Stettin and was launched on March 23, 1978. The delivery to Polferries took place on June 26, 1979. In the same month, the ship began ferry operations between Świnoujście (Swinoujscie), Ystad , Danzig , Nynäshamn and Helsinki .

In July 1983 the ferry was chartered to the Morocco- based shipping company Cotunav , followed by a deployment for the Grimaldi Lines from May 1985 to October 1986. From April 1987 the Silesia was again in service for Polferries, this time on the route from Swinoujscie via Copenhagen to Travemünde .

In the following years the ship changed the service route several times. In March 2005, it ended its commitment to Polferries and was in Swinoujscie placed before it in July 2005 with the Greek shipping company GA Ferries found a new owner. After the transfer to Piraeus , the owner did not put the ferry into service as planned, but sold it under the name Felicia to a shipowner based in the Ukraine . In 2006 she finally took up the service between Istanbul and Odessa as Yuzhnaya Palmyra .

From May 2008 to January 2009, drove Yuzhnaya Palmyra under charter of the Spanish shipping company Iscomar between Valencia and Ibiza under the name Begoña del Mar . It then returned to service from Istanbul to Odessa under its old name until it was launched in Illichivsk in September .

After more than a year of layover, the ship went to the South Adriatic Shipping Line as Adriatica I in December 2010 and was deployed between Bari and Durrës from January 2011 until November 2012, a longer layover in the ports of Tripoli , Messina , Tangier , Porto Empedocle and Drapetsona began, which dragged on until 2017. The ferry now belonged to the Cypriot shipping company European Seaways and was henceforth called Galaxy .

From April to May 2017 the ship was in service between Tvøroyri and Tórshavn under the charter of the Strandfaraskip Landsins . From June 2018 Africa Morocco Link chartered the ferry for the service from Algeciras to Tangier. Since the charter expired, the Galaxy has been in use for its owner European Seaways between Trapani and Pantelleria .
