Galina Nikolaevna Prosumenschtschikowa
Galina Nikolajewna Prosumenschtschikowa ( Russian Галина Николаевна Прозуменщикова ; born November 26, 1948 in Sevastopol , Soviet Union ; † July 19, 2015 ) was a swimmer who competed for the Soviet Union.
Life
Galina Prosumenschtschikowa was one of the best breast swimmers of the 1960s and 1970s and was the first female swimmer from the Soviet Union to become Olympic champion in swimming at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo under her maiden name Galina Stepanova . She won the 200 m chest. She also collected other medals and, among other things, became the first European champion in the 100 m chest in 1970 .
In 1977 she was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .
