Siebrecht bakery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The bakery Siebrecht GmbH & Co. oHG (also Group Siebrecht ) was a group of bakery chains , the bakery products sold from own production. In 2009 the company had 1,320 employees and a consolidated turnover of around 56 million euros . The group companies appeared under the brand names Backstube Siebrecht and Garde - the good baker . It was considered the seventh largest German bakery chain. In May 2013 the group had to file for bankruptcy.

Business and branches

The central administration of the group of companies was located in Brakel, North Rhine-Westphalia . In 2009 Karsten Jarick was the managing director. In 2009 Siebrecht sold 65% of the shares in Achimer Stadtbäckerei , which is no longer included in the group consolidation. This also explains the decline in sales from almost EUR 82 million in the previous year to around EUR 56 million.

On May 2, 2013 insolvency was filed for the Brakel and Erfurt locations and justified with the difficult situation in the baking trade. Also in May 2013, bankruptcy was filed for the Achim location.

Branch in Brakel

The Siebrecht bakery emerged from a grocery store founded in Brakel in 1964 and developed into a bakery chain. From 1994 to 1996, a central production facility with around 12,000 square meters of usable space was built in Brakel  , from which more than 100 branches as the Siebrecht bakery in East Westphalia as well as in the rest of Westphalia and southern Lower Saxony are currently  supplied. The company's administration, which also acts as the central administration for the group, is also located in Brakel.

In 2009, the company was considering giving up production in Brakel and leasing the branches. This would affect a total of around 900 employees, namely 200 employees at the production site and 700 employees in the branches affected by the planned leasing system. The plans met with opposition from the NGG union . At the beginning of 2011, the company's management announced that it would reduce the workforce at the Brakel branch from a total of 900 to 700 and close 46 of 112 branches. The youth organization ( Juso AG Brakel ) of the SPD city association Brakel dealt with the “job cuts at the Siebrecht bakery” in spring 2011 .

The Brakel site has now been wound up and no longer exists.

Branch in Erfurt

The central production facility with around 4500 square meters of usable space and the administration of Siebrecht GmbH were located in a building of the former consumer bakery in Erfurt, Thuringia . A total of 100 branches of the Siebrecht bakery , which are located throughout Thuringia, as well as in the centers of Leipzig , Chemnitz and Dresden in the Free State of Saxony , in Halle in Saxony-Anhalt and in southern Saxony-Anhalt were supplied. After the Siebrecht Group went bankrupt, the Bumüller Group from Hechingen (Baden-Württemberg) took over the business in 2014 . In the meantime the stores have been transferred to the Sternenbäck brand.

Achimer town bakery

The central production facility with around 8,000 square meters of usable space and the administration of the Achimer Stadtbäckerei are located in an industrial area in Achim in Lower Saxony , near the Bremen motorway junction (location) . Karsten Jarick is also the managing director. A total of 70 branches are operated in the city states of Bremen and Hamburg as well as in the respective surrounding areas under the brand name "Garde - der gute Bäcker" . Garde was an old bakery and later bakery chain in Bremen, whose origins go back to the 18th century. The company has belonged to the Achimer Stadtbäckerei bakery chain since the mid-1990s , which in turn was taken over by the Siebrecht Group in 2000 . In 2008, Achimer Stadtbäckerei GmbH & Co. had a total of 587 employees who generated annual sales of around 19.055 million euros . After the Siebrecht Group went bankrupt, Karsten and Ricarda Jarick took over the Achimer Stadtbäckerei including their brand Bäckerei Garde , which in June 2015 now had 45 branches and 450 employees.

Bakery Garde in Bremen

The basis of the Garde bakery was a white bakery , which was founded in 1797 at Pelzer Straße 31 in Bremen's old town by Joachim Engelke von Holtz and which was taken over by master baker Adolf Garde in 1903. At that time, Garde was already running its own white bakery in what was then Talstrasse in Bremen. After the takeover, he restructured his operations and expanded his business. In 1936 several branches were already being supplied by the enlarged parent company in Pelzer Strasse, including those in Faulenstrasse in the Stephaniviertel and Ellhornstrasse in the suburb of the station .

During the Second World War , the main shop moved to Sögestraße in the old town in 1940 . As a result of the destruction caused by the bombing , baked goods production had to be relocated to Huchting and Hildesheimer Straße ( eastern suburb ) in the 1940s . After the war, operations were resumed on Pelzerstrasse in 1947. The company later moved to Bürgermeister-Smidt-Straße  27-29 (Bahnhofsvorstadt district) and expanded the branch network.

In addition to his entrepreneurial activity, Adolf Garde took an active part in Bremen's social life. He met his future wife Ute at the Bremen Varieté Astoria . He got involved "as a song father" in the Bremen master baker choral society Früh-Auf, founded in 1892, and played a central role in its revival in 1946.

In 1995 the Achimer Stadtbäckerei from Achim near Bremen took over the company, which now has the legal form of a GmbH and is run under the company name Garde “Der gute Bäcker” GmbH , which now operates in all of its branches under the well-known Bremen brand name “Garde - der good baker ”occurs.
