Garry Valk (born November 27, 1967 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 838 games for the Vancouver Canucks , Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , Pittsburgh Penguins , Toronto Maple Leafs and between 1984 and 2003 Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League on the left winger position .
Career
Garry Valk began his career in 1984 with the Sherwood Park Crusaders in the Alberta Junior Hockey League , before joining the University of North Dakota ice hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association in 1987 . In a total of 121 games he reached 105 points and received 227 penalty minutes. Valk was selected in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks in the sixth round at a total of 108th position. In the 1990/91 season he ran in 64 NHL games for the Canucks and collected 21 points scorer. In the same season he also played 13 games for the Milwaukee Admirals in the International Hockey League and was credited 16 points. In the following two years, the Canadian was one of the Canucks' regulars and qualified with the team for the play-offs, in which the team was eliminated from the competition in the second round at the latest. For the 1993/94 season he left the franchise and joined the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim .
With the Californians he was able to earn a regular place within a short time and scored 45 points for the Ducks in his first season. Valk ran regularly for the Southern Californians on the ice in the following years, but could not build on his earlier performances and missed the play-offs with the team. In 1997 he moved to the Pittsburgh Penguins , where he scored ten points in 56 NHL games. A year later these gave him over to the Toronto Maple Leafs . There he managed to improve his performance again and qualified for the finals with the Maple Leafs. After the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins were defeated in the first two rounds , the team lost in the conference final in five games against the Buffalo Sabers .
In the following year, the winger with the team reached first place in the Northeast Division with five points ahead of the Ottawa Senators . In the play-offs, the team was finally defeated in six games against the New Jersey Devils . For the 2002/03 season he was on the ice for the Norfolk Admirals from the American Hockey League and the Chicago Blackhawks . After that, Valk ended his active career.
