Naturgy is a Spanish company in the energy sector. The most important business activities are in the supply and marketing of natural gas and electricity. Naturgy is listed on four Spanish stock exchanges and is listed on Ibex 35 . On October 6, 2017, the company's headquarters were relocated from Barcelona to Madrid.

The company is a supplier of liquefied gas in the Atlantic and Mediterranean regions. The company operates mainly in Spain and Latin America , but also in Central and Northern Europe with its subsidiary Gas Natural Europe (France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium). In 2015 the company was present in 30 countries and supplied 23 million customers. The electricity capacity is 15.5 GW.

The President is Isidre Fainé, the General Manager is Rafael Villaseca Marco. 

history

Gas Natural

The history of Gas Natural goes back to 1843 and begins with the creation of the Catalana de Gas, whose mission was to illuminate the city of Barcelona with gas lamps. In the 1960s, the company began building the first nuclear power plant in Spain.

Gas Natural was founded in 1991 following the merger of Catalana de Gas, Gas Madrid and the Repsol Butano gas network.

Unión Fenosa

Unión Fenosa was created in 1982 through the merger of Unión Eléctrica and Fuerzas del Noroeste.

Gas Natural Fenosa

In July 2008, ACS sold its 45% stake in Union Fenosa to Gas Natural for EUR 7.58 billion. The purchase was made in two parts, first with a takeover of 10% and then 35%. As this purchase exceeded 30% of the stake, Gas Natural was required to submit an offer for the entire company. The price of this purchase offer was EUR 16.8 billion. The purchase was completed in September 2009, Gas Natural was renamed Gas Natural Fenosa again and thus had an electricity capacity of 17,000 MW.

In October 2014 Gas Natural Fenosa bought the Chilean electricity company Compania General de Electricidad for 2.6 billion euros.

In June 2018 the name of the company was changed to Naturgy .
