The Gau Magdeburg-Anhalt was an administrative unit of the NSDAP .

History and structure

The Gau Anhalt emerged in 1925 from the NSDAP local group in Dessau , which became the Gau capital (Gau management: Seminarstrasse 10). After disputes, the Gauleitung changed in 1927 from Gustav Hermann Schmischke to the previous managing director Wilhelm Friedrich Loeper , who held it until his death in 1935. At the same time, the Gau Elbe-Havel was added, which had been headed by Alois Bachschmidt since 1925 .

In 1932 Loeper set up the first leadership school for the Reich Labor Service in Großkühnau Castle . In the same year Loeper was appointed State Inspector of the NSDAP for all of Central Germany-Brandenburg, which is why Hofmann represented him as Gauleiter. Because of a dispute with Loeper, he resigned in 1933 and was replaced by Joachim Albrecht Eggeling .

With the gain in power in 1933 Loeper became Reich Governor for the Free State of Anhalt and the Free State of Braunschweig . In the Prussian province of Saxony , Curt von Ulrich was the senior president from 1933 to 1944 . After Loeper's death from cancer, according to the deputy ruling, according to which a deputy Gauleiter could not become Gauleiter in the same Gau, Eggeling became Gauleiter in the neighboring Gau Halle-Merseburg on April 20, 1937 as the successor to Jordan , who and also moved to Dessau as Gauleiter became Reich Governor. This was followed by his appointments as Reich Defense Commissioner and Upper President of the Prussian Province of Magdeburg, which was newly formed from the Magdeburg administrative district in 1944 . Jordan went into hiding at the end of the war.
