Gebharts is a place in the cadastral municipality of the same name of Schrems in northern Lower Austria .

history

The founder of the place was a Mr. Gebhard, probably from the dynasty of the Counts von Hirschberg . The place was first mentioned in a document in 1506. At that time he belonged to the Schwarzenau lordship . Gebharts briefly belonged to the Schwarza parish in 1784 , and subsequently to the Schrems parish until today . In 1886 a school was built in which the current ecological station Waldviertel of the Federal Office for Water Management was set up later .

economy

In addition to natural and organic agriculture with the marketing organization Bioservice Zach GmbH , the main sources of income are the granite industry, whereby Gebhartser Granit and Gebhartser Syenit are extracted. In addition, there are increasing numbers of self-employed traders and employees in regional industrial companies. Gebharts has around 200 inhabitants and an area of ​​around 600 ha.
