Geneva (German: Geneva) is a city in the Chicago metropolitan area and the administrative seat of Kane County in the north of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2000 the city had 19,515 inhabitants on an area of 22.2 km². Geneva is on the Fox River . Neighboring parishes are Batavia , St. Charles and West Chicago . Mayor is Kevin Burns. Geneva owns a hospital called Delnor Community Hospital .
history
The area of what is now Geneva was inhabited exclusively by Indian tribes from at least the 17th century until the early 19th century. The first white settlers settled there from around 1830. In 1836 Geneva was elevated to a county seat .
Geneva has been a city since 1887. First Mayor was James Herrington, the son of the founder.
