Georg Grasegger

Georg Grasegger (born November 28, 1873 in Partenkirchen , † June 8, 1927 in Cologne ) was a German sculptor who accomplished his life's work in Cologne.

Life

Grasegger began his training in 1886 at the drawing and modeling school Partenkirchen and continued his studies in 1890 at the Royal School of Applied Arts in Munich . Since 1893 Wilhelm von Rümann was a student at the Munich Art Academy. In 1901 he was appointed to the Cologne School of Applied Arts . From 1913 until his death in 1927 he was a professor of sculpture and building sculpture at the Cologne factory schools with a focus on building sculpture . He was also a member of the City of Cologne Art Advisory Board and the Rhenish Advisory Center for War Honor and one of the founders of the Cologne artists' association style . In 1912 Grasegger was involved in the preparation of the Sonderbund exhibition . Grasegger exhibited some objects at the Werkbund exhibition in Cologne in 1914 . The sculptor preferred to make small and blue sculptures. In addition, he worked as a mural painter and designed medals and church paraments . From 1919 he worked at the Institute for Religious Art in Cologne.

His predominantly late expressionist works are z. B. can be found on the facades of the Munich Palace of Justice and the Cologne Museum of Decorative Arts . He created a war memorial for Cologne Cathedral ; The carnival fountain in Cologne also comes from him .

In Cologne-Longerich a street was named after Georg Grasegger.
