Georg Hartmann (General Manager)
Georg Hans Julius Wenzel Hartmann (born February 19, 1891 in Nuremberg , † April 9, 1972 in Munich ) was a German opera director and artistic director.
career
Hartmann was born the son of Georg Hartmann Senior and attended high schools in Königsberg and Essen . He then studied geography and art history in Marburg and Munich and received his doctorate with a thesis on the artistic director Karl Theodor von Küstner .
Hartmann began his theater career via Meiningen , Erfurt and Hanover in 1920 to the Dresden State Opera . In 1923 he was first director in Lübeck. In 1925 he moved to Dessau in the same position and in 1929 to Breslau .
The Nazis urged him to give up the post, but was able to move to Dortmund through the mediation of Wilhelm Furtwängler and then also became director there in 1934. In 1937 he went to Duisburg and with its ensemble he came to the Deutsche Oper in Prague in 1943 .
In 1946 he came again to Dessau, but was then appointed as state director at the National Theater in Munich . He then worked primarily as a guest director on several stages.
