Georg Herting
Georg Herting (born September 28, 1872 in Linden ; † January 22, 1951 in Hanover ) was a German sculptor .
Life
Georg Herting studied with Wilhelm von Rümann at the Munich Art Academy and from 1896 lived as a freelance sculptor in Linden. Although he was born in Linden, it was not until 1897 that he received citizenship of the former rural community of Linden, which had meanwhile become an independent town .
In 1906 he became a member of the Hanover Art Association .
Herting taught as a lecturer for ornament and figure modeling at the Technical University of Braunschweig , on March 3, 1911 Duke Johann Albrecht zu Mecklenburg appointed him as regent of the Duchy of Braunschweig as associate professor of the university. In 1914 he was awarded the Prussian Red Eagle Order, 4th class.
Many of his sculptures and pictures still shape the cityscape of Hanover today. In the 1930s and 1940s, his style closely approached the prevailing art under National Socialism .
Georg Herting's grave is located in the Ricklingen city cemetery in Hanover.
