from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg Karl von Hessen-Kassel (born January 8, 1691 in Kassel ; † March 5, 1755 ibid) was a prince of Hessen-Kassel , as well as a Prussian , Swedish , imperial and Hessian general .

Life

Georg was the tenth and youngest son of Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Kassel (1654–1730) from his marriage to Marie Amalia (1653–1711), daughter of Duke Jakob Kettler of Courland . To provide for him, he received the estate of Waltersbrück and Völkershausen .

He received his military training under King Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia . On January 11, 1714 he became Prussian general wagon master and in 1723 Prussian lieutenant general and governor of Minden . He left the Prussian service in 1730 and was later a Swedish lieutenant field marshal , general of the Hessian troops and imperial lieutenant general.

In 1734 he received the village and court of Waltersbrück (with Schlierbach , Bischhausen , Dorheim and the Gerzhausen desert ) to provide for him.

He was probably very close to his older brother, King Frederick of Sweden , because he visited him several times in Stockholm . This appointed him on January 13, 1731 to the Swedish lieutenant general. On December 20, 1734, he became Imperial Feldzeugmeister. His brother, Landgrave Wilhelm VIII of Hessen-Kassel , appointed him Field Marshal General on August 12, 1741.

Georg died unmarried and childless.
