Georg Nachtsheim
Georg Nachtsheim (born June 30, 1951 in Oberhausen ) is a major general a. D. of the army of the Bundeswehr . In his last assignment he was Deputy Commander Headquarters NATO Rapid Deployable Corps - France in Lille-Armées / France from December 9, 2010 to June 30, 2013 .
Life
Georg Nachtsheim was born in Oberhausen and grew up in Darmstadt, Karlsruhe, Luxembourg and Mönchengladbach. In 1970 he received a US scholarship and returned to Germany after a year with a “high school diploma”.
He is married and has four children. In his free time, Nachtsheim deals with politics, European history and foreign language literature. In addition to German, he speaks English, French, Italian and Spanish.
Military career
Training and first uses
Nachtsheim joined the Bundeswehr in 1972 with the 314 tank battalion in Oldenburg (Oldenburg) as an officer candidate . In 1973 he was transferred to the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg and began studying economics and organizational sciences. During his studies he was made a lieutenant in 1975 .
After completing his academic training, he returned to the troops in 1976 as a business graduate, and in the same year he was promoted to lieutenant . Initially he was employed in the tank battalion 314 as a platoon leader officer , later as an S2 officer (head of staff department S2 ). After these assignments, he was transferred to the Panzer Lehrbataillon 93 in Munster in 1980 , where he was appointed captain of the company commander .
General staff training and service as a staff officer
From 1983 to 1984 Nachtsheim completed the 26th general staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg, followed by participation in the French general staff training at the "Ecole Supérieure de Guerre" in Paris until 1986. In 1986 he was also appointed major . Back in Germany he became department head in the staff of Panzer Brigade 29 in Sigmaringen , before his path in 1988 took him to the Hardthöhe in Bonn and became a consultant in staff department III "Military Policy" in the command staff of the armed forces (FüS). Also in 1988 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel .
In 1991 he took over the Panzerbataillon 164/174 in Schwarzenbek as commander and led it until his transfer to Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Casteau near Mons / Belgium in 1993 . There he took over the post of the G3 exercises and program Partnership for Peace until the end of 1996. This was followed by Nachtsheim's first assignment abroad as part of SFOR in Bosnia and Herzegovina . After his assignment abroad, he returned to the command academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg in mid-1997, where he was appointed head of the security policy and armed forces department. He also received his appointment as colonel in 1997.
General uses
As early as 1999, he went back to SFOR as a brigadier general , this time as Chief of Staff of the Multinational Division South-East (MND SE) based in Mostar . He then received his second troop command when he took over the Franco-German Brigade in Müllheim (Baden) as commander on October 24, 1999 . During this time, Nachtsheim completed his third assignment abroad with SFOR, this time as Chief of Staff at the headquarters in Sarajevo .
On September 28, 2001, he handed over command of the brigade to his French successor, Général de brigade Bernard Oberto. Nachtsheim moved to Strasbourg to the Eurocorps and was employed there as Deputy Chief of Staff Support (DCOS Support). Following this assignment, he was transferred to the Army Office in Cologne as Head of Department II (Training and International Relations of the Army) .
On September 3, 2007, Nachtsheim returned to the Eurocorps and became Chief of Staff there. He handed over this post to the Spanish Brigadier General Alfredo Ramirez in October 2009 and then completed language training in preparation for his future assignment. In 2010 he moved to London as a member of the Royal College for Defense Studies. On January 1, 2011, Nachtsheim finally took over the post of Deputy Commander Headquarters NATO Rapid Deployable Corps - France from Major General Karl Ackermann while being promoted to Major General in Lille-Armées , France .
