from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg Philipp Gottlob Freiherr von Schönaich (born July 25, 1704 in Berlin , † May 14, 1790 in Mellendorf near Reichenbach in the Owl Mountains ) was an imperial colonel and Prussian major general and heir to Schlaupitz and Mellendorf.

Life

origin

Georg Philipp was a member of the family of the Barons von Schoenaich . He was the son of Franz Leopold Freiherr von Schoenaich (1664–1707) and his wife Henriette Hedwig, née Countess von Schwerin from the Altlandsberg family (1675–1744). His father was lord of Amptitz, Mellendorf and Döbern as well as of the estate of Beuthen.

Military career

Schönaich was initially in imperial service, where he began his career as a cornet in 1719 . By 1741 he was promoted to colonel and was on June 15 as such in Altenburg in Wieselburg County . On September 16, 1745 he was regimental commander and colonel in Kremsier in Moravia . Other stations were Modena (1747), Ostiglia (1748), Egbell and Podola (1750) in Neutra County , before he switched to Prussian services on March 10, 1751.

His move to the Prussians was to be arranged as early as 1742, but King Friedrich II was initially unwilling to comply with Schönaich's request for a 2000 Thaler pension and a regiment .

He began his service in the Prussian army as major general of the cavalry with a patent dated December 8, 1750 and a treaty of 2,484 thalers. On February 11, 1752, Schönaich became chief of the "Graf von Rothenburg" dragoon regiment (No. 3) and finally, on March 17, 1753, chief of the "von Stille" cuirassier regiment No. 6 . He took part in the Seven Years' War , in particular the Battle of Kolin , and diminished on April 14, 1759.

When Schönaich asked the king to return to active service after the death of Frederick the Great , he replied negatively in 1786:

"Think about your age and be calm."

Individual evidence

  1. Priesdorff names a son Otto Philipp Fabian Johann Nepumuk von Schönaich (1745–1801), major in the Bayreuth dragoon regiment . This is known neither in the relevant genealogical literature nor in his presumed regiment. See also Ravenstein (1927), Supplement Nro. 4, p. 160
