Ostiglia is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 6562 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Mantua in Lombardy . The municipality is located about 29 kilometers southeast of Mantua on the Po .
history
The village of Ostiglia operated under the name Hostilia in ancient times . The Via Claudia Augusta also ran through the village . In the Middle Ages and in modern times, different rulers ruled over the village (including the Veronese and the Scaliger , finally the Visconti and the Gonzaga ). In 1717 the castle was razed. In 1907 the Arnoldo Mondadori Editore company was founded here.

Ostiglia is a traffic junction: this is where the Strada Statale 482 Alto Polesine coming from Mantua meets the Strada Statale 12 dell'Abetone e del Brennero from Verona to Bologna . The Ostiglia stop, which opened in a new location in 2008, is on the Verona – Bologna railway line ; the former station was also served by the line to Treviso . Until 1934 there was a tram connection from Brescia via Mantua to Ostiglia. Ostiglia is on the Po cycle path.
