history

The Lovers of Valdaro are an approximately 6000 year old human skeleton couple that were discovered in 2007 in a Neolithic tomb in the district of Valdaro. Until 2018 the municipality was called San Giorgio di Mantova . On January 1, 2019, the previously independent municipality of Bigarello was incorporated and the name of the municipality was changed.

The old name of San Giorgio di Mantova goes back to a place that was destroyed during the Napoleonic Wars. Fortifications were built in its place to protect Mantuas.
