Quistello is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 5418 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Mantua in Lombardy . The community is located about 22 kilometers southeast of Mantua on the Secchia . Quistello borders directly on the province of Modena ( Emilia-Romagna ). The municipality is located a few kilometers south of the Po .

history

The name of the place arose from the Latin custellum . In 1007 the name of the community appears for the first time as a custello . In 1734 the battle of Quistello took place here between Habsburg troops and French and Sardinian troops as part of the War of the Polish Succession .

Economy and Transport

In the area around Quistello wine is grown and Lambrusco is produced from it. The former Strada Statale 496 Virgiliana (now a provincial road) runs through the municipality from Ferrara to San Benedetto Po .
