Georg Viktor (born January 14, 1831 in Arolsen ; † May 12, 1893 in Marienbad ) was Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont from May 15, 1845 until his death.

Life

Georg Viktor was the son of Prince Georg II Heinrich . So he belonged to the Waldeck family . He was initially under the tutelage of his mother Emma until January 14, 1852 , after which he refused to recognize the constitution passed as a result of the revolution of 1848/49 , and only took over the reign on August 17, 1852 after a constitutional amendment that he approved.

In the German war he was on the side of Prussia . He offered Prussia his country for annexation, which the neighboring Kurhessen had annexed after this military conflict. Bismarck rejected this offer. An accession agreement with Prussia, which was extended several times, then came into force. Waldeck's regional director Johannes von Saldern signed the contract from 1887 .

In the Prussian army, Georg Viktor held the rank of general of the infantry . He had been a knight of the Black Eagle Order since February 1, 1868 and also chief of the 3rd Hessian Infantry Regiment No. 83 .

Marriages and offspring

Prince Georg Viktor married Princess Helene von Nassau , daughter of Duke Wilhelm von Nassau , on September 26, 1853 . After her death, on April 29, 1891, he married Princess Louise of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, the daughter of Duke Friedrich .
