Georg von Zastrow

Alexander Georg von Zastrow (born May 12, 1846 in Gollnow ; † February 9, 1907 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

family

Georg came from the Zastrow family . He was a son of the Prussian colonel and commander of the III. Battalion of the 4th Pomeranian Landwehr Regiment Alexander Georg von Zastrow (1803–1882) and Auguste Marie Louise Henriette von Bodenstein (* 1818). Zastrow was married to Olga Lindemann, who came from a wealthy family of gas manufacturers in Schwerin. The marriage resulted in four sons and two daughters, including the painter Auguste Beer .

Military career

Zastrow was after his training in the cadet corps as at 9 April 1864 Ensign the Infantry Regiment. 51 of the Prussian Army transferred. There he was promoted to second lieutenant on January 10, 1865 and took part with the regiment in the war against Prussia and in 1870/71 in the war against France . After the end of the war in 1872 Zastrow was promoted to prime lieutenant, on April 30, 1877, Zastrow was promoted to captain and company commander . As such, he was transferred to the 3rd Jäger Battalion on June 20, 1877 . Zastrow served here for the next nine years, then came as a major in the infantry regiment "Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II of Mecklenburg-Schwerin" (4th Brandenburg) No. 24 and was here from May 22, 1889 to March 21 Used in 1891 as commander of the 2nd battalion in Neuruppin . Subsequently appointed commander of the Jäger Battalion No. 3 , Zastrow was promoted to lieutenant colonel on May 20, 1893 and to colonel on June 16, 1896. Two days later he was given command of the 2nd Baden Grenadier Regiment "Kaiser Wilhelm I." No. 110 . After Zastrow had led the regiment for three years, he was appointed commander of Mainz on June 15, 1899 . As such, he received the character of major general on July 3, 1899 . 1904 Zastrow was relieved of this command and the disposition made.

His grave is preserved in the churchyard of the St. Clemens St. Katharinen Church in Seedorf (Lauenburg) .
