Gerd von Rundstedt (Major General)

Gerd Arnold Konrad von Rundstedt (born February 19, 1848 in Berlin ; † January 4, 1916 in Heikendorf ) was a Prussian officer , most recently major general .

Life

Gerd von Rundstedt joined the Prussian Army Hussar Regiment No. 10 as an ensign in 1865 and was promoted to Second Lieutenant on July 20, 1866 . In the same year he took part in the German war . In 1869 Rundstedt rose to regimental adjutant and took part in the war against France in 1870/71 . For his achievements he received the Iron Cross, 2nd class.

After the war he graduated from the War Academy by 1874 . On March 12, 1881, he was promoted to Rittmeister and at the same time appointed squadron chief . Rundstedt was transferred to Hussar Regiment No. 13 on December 12, 1882 in the same capacity . From July 8, 1886, he served as an adjutant of the 21st Division . As a major , Rundstedt came to the staff of Hussar Regiment No. 16 in 1893 and was appointed regimental commander. In the further course of his military career, Rundstedt was promoted to colonel on January 27, 1899 and deployed as commander of the Landwehr district of Kiel . For his services in the troop leadership Rundstedt was awarded the Red Eagle Order III. Class with ribbon, the Order of the Crown II. Class as well as the Order of the Iron Crown II. Class and the Commander of the Franz Joseph Order . In 1905 he was adopted as a major general, conferring his character .

During the First World War was Rundstedt as an officer z D reused and served as inspector of the replacement squadrons of IX. Army Corps .

He was married to Adelheid Fischer (1856–1925). From the marriage u. a. later General Field Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt emerged.
