Gerhard Hultsch

Gerhard Hultsch (born December 13, 1911 in Brieg ; † April 6, 1992 in Wertheim ) was a German pastor of the Protestant Church , high school teacher and church historian . After the Second World War he made a name for himself as an author, editor and publishing director, especially in the field of Silesian church history .

Life

From 1931 Hultsch studied Protestant theology , history and geography at the universities of Gießen , Rostock , Marburg , Berlin and Breslau . In 1935 he was in Berlin with a thesis on the nationality and languages in the Evangelical Church of Silesia from 1742 to the present to Dr. phil. PhD .

After the ordination in Breslau on November 25, 1938, Hultsch, who had joined the Confessing Church in Silesia, was appointed pastor in Nädlingen near Breslau on November 1, 1939 . However, he did military service in the Air Force from the outbreak of World War II until 1945 . In 1940 he was also in Berlin with a thesis on Friedrich Nietzsche and Luther to Dr. theol. PhD.

After the end of the war, Hultsch initially worked as the second pastor and lecturer at the seminary in Wittenberg . In 1947 he moved to the zones of occupation of the Western powers . In 1950 he became a religion teacher at a grammar school in Ulm . From 1955 he taught religion, history and geography in Bingen am Rhein as a student councilor (from 1965 as senior student councilor ) . In 1971 he took early retirement for health reasons and settled in Wertheim .

Act

Hultsch was instrumental in the reorganization of the Association for Silesian Church History in the young Federal Republic of Germany . Together with Hellmut Eberlein , he re-founded the Yearbook for Silesian Church History in 1953 , which was published in 1882 as a correspondence sheet for the Association for the History of Ev Church of Silesia was founded. Up to and including 1986, Hultsch remained active as co-editor or editor of the yearbook.

From 1952 Hultsch was cultural advisor for the community of Protestant Silesians and a member of the Church Congress of Protestant Silesians . From 1953 to 1967 he was also the chief editor of the Silesian God Friend . He initiated the expansion of the publishing house Unser Weg ( Lübeck ), which he headed from 1953 to 1982, and from 1952 to 1977 published the series The Evangelical Silesia for the Community of Evangelical Silesians , which was aimed at a wider audience.

In 1982 Hultsch was appointed honorary chairman of the Association for Silesian Church History . He was a member of the Historical Commission for Silesia , the board of directors of the Association for the History of Silesia , the extended board of the Silesian Cultural Works Foundation and the Gustav Freytag Society . In 1965 he was awarded the title of church council by the church leadership of the Evangelical Church of Silesia ( Görlitz ) and in 1969 the Silesian Landsmannschaft gave him the gold Silesian shield.
