history

Around 1850, the original patrimonial jurisdiction was dissolved in Istria as in the entire Austrian Empire . As a result, the Volosca-Abbazia judicial district was created. The judicial district was subordinate to the Provincial Court of Rovigno , which was responsible for the entire county and which in turn was subordinate to the Higher Regional Court of Trieste , which began operating on May 1, 1850. Even after Istria and Trieste as well as Gorizia and Gradisca gained their independence as crown lands from the original crown land coastal land, the Trieste Higher Regional Court remained the highest instance for the judicial district of Volosca-Abbazia.

The judicial district of Volosca-Abbazia formed in the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration from 1868 together with the Castelnuovo ( Podgrad ) the district of Volosca . The judicial district of Volosca-Abbazia had a population of 21,691 in 1869.

By 1910 the population had grown to 37,861, of which 27,447 people stated Croatian (72.5%) as a colloquial language, 3,742 spoke Slovenian (9.9%), 2,399 German (6.3%) Italian and 947 Italian (2.5%) %). The district last covered an area of 337.82 km² or five municipalities.

Due to the border regulations of the Treaty of Saint-Germain concluded on September 10, 1919 , the judicial district of Volosca-Abbazia was completely slammed into Italy. After the Second World War, the territory of the former judicial district became part of Yugoslavia and has been part of the Republic of Croatia since 1991 .
