The Gernsbacher Höhe is 540.6  m above sea level. NHN high elevation of the Rothaargebirge . It is between Gernsdorf in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Siegen-Wittgenstein and Dillbrecht in the Hessian Lahn-Dill district - with a peak in Westphalia .

The Gernsbacher Höhe rises in the southwest of the Rothaargebirge on the northwest border of the Lahn-Dill-Bergland nature park and on the border of the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in the northwest to the Lahn-Dill district in the southeast. Counter- clockwise looking at it is between Gern village in the north-northwest, rowing village in the northwest and Wilgersdorf in the west-southwest, all at Wilnsdorf relate, and Dill Brecht in the south-southeast and Offdilln in the east-southeast, both to Haiger count. Its summit is located 2.1 km south-southeast of the center of the Westphalian Gernsdorf in the Rudersdorf district and 2 km north-north-west of the center of the Hessian Dillbrecht; the Westphalian-Hessian border is 100 m southeast of the summit. The Tiefenrother Höhe ( 552.3  m ) joins in the southwest and the Haincher Höhe ( 609  m ) in the northeast . There are three wind turbines in the transition area between Gernsbacherhöhe and Tiefenrother Höhe.

Natural allocation

The Gernsbacher Höhe belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33) in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Dill-Lahn-Eder source area (333.0) to the natural area Kalteiche (with Haincher Höhe) (333.00) . To the north-west, its landscape falls into the main unit Siegerland (331) and in the sub-unit Northsiegerländer Bergland (331.0) into the natural area Südliches Siegener Bergland (331.04).

Mountain height and peaks

The Gernsbacher Höhe is 540.6 m high as part of its west- south-  west summit . Their height is sometimes only given as about 537  m , which probably refers to the summit of the 537.3 m high east-north-east dome  . Both peaks are about 530 m apart. On topographical maps there is a trail branch at the Rothaarsteig around 130 m south of the mountain summit at a height of 539.1  m and around 120 m east of this summit a path at a height of 535.7  m .

Lahn-Sieg watershed and flowing waters

The Lahn - Sieg -Wasserscheide runs over the Gernsbacher Höhe : a small tributary of the Bichelbach rises on its northern flank , whose water reaches the Rhine through the Weiß and Sieg rivers . On the western flank lies the Hermerichsborn, whose water also flows to the Rhine through the Klingelseifen , which swells a little to the southwest of it , the Wahlbach , the Bichelbach, the Weiß and the Sieg. On the south east edge of a small inflow of the swelling arises on the transition area to the height Haincher black Bach (Schwarzenbach) whose water through the Dill opens and which Lahn in the Rhine.

Protected areas

Parts of the nature reserve (NSG) Gernsdorfer Weidekämpe ( CDDA no. 163235; designated in 1989; 1.0197 km² in size) extend to areas of the north flank of the Gernsbacher Höhe near the summit  , and the NSG Oberes Langenbachtal (CDDA- No. 318886; 2003; 17.7  ha ). Except for the transition area to Haincher Höhe, parts of the landscape protection area of ​​the municipality of Netphen extend (CDDA no. 555558489; 1985; 117.4529 km²). Parts of the fauna-flora-habitat area Gernsdorfer Weidekämpe (FFH No. 5115-301; 110 ha) extend to the north flank of the Gernsbacher Höhe, and on the lower part of its northwest flank is the FFH area Upper Langenbachtal (FFH No. 5115-302; 1.466 km²). Parts of the Hauberge bird sanctuary near Haiger extend to the eastern flank (VSG no. 5115-401; 76.8659 km²).

Traffic and walking

Roads only lead through the villages of Gernsdorf , Rudersdorf , Wilgersdorf , Dillbrecht and Offdilln, all around the Gernsbacher Höhe . The Rothaarsteig runs 100 m south-east of its summit as one of several hiking trails on site.
