Gerrit de Vries

Gerrit Abrahamszoon de Vries (born February 22, 1818 in Haarlem , † March 4, 1900 in The Hague ) was a liberal Dutch statesman. From 1872 to 1874 he was chairman of the Council of Ministers.

Gerrit de Vries was a student of Johan Rudolf Thorbecke and after his death took over the chairmanship of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Justice. He had a reputation for being more of an administrative officer than a politician. After failing a law on judicial reform, he resigned and after a short time returned to the State Council as a member of parliament.
