Act of Terror (also Gideon's Sword ) is a Canadian-American television production from the year 1986 . Based on the novel "Revenge is Ours - An Israeli Secret Command in Action" ( Vengeance. The True Story of an Israeli Counter-Terrorist Team ) by George Jonas , the action film describes the operations of a Mossad team, which is given the task of executing those responsible and planners of the hostage-taking in Munich (see Caesarea (Mossad special unit) ).

action

After the hostage-taking and assassination of the Israeli Olympic team in 1972, Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir ordered a retaliatory operation: "Gideon's sword". The Mossad agent Avner is tasked with his team to kill various planners, helpers and the client from the ranks of the PLO. After initial successful operations across Europe, the tide is turning. One after the other from Avner's team, they themselves become victims of attacks. Disaffected, Avner quits his service with the Mossad and begins a new life in New York, albeit knowing that he will not be safe there.

Awards

The film won three Gemini Awards in 1987 and was nominated in three other categories. That same year Chris Bryant was nominated for the Edgar Allan Poe Award .

Special aspects

The book by George Jonas remains problematic to this day. Although the author claims to have written the operations at that time based on the information provided by the "real" Mossad operations manager, Juval Aviv , it is definitive evidence for the events at that time, in particular for the killing of several members of the Mossad team as well as for moral development Avners, fails. In addition, the Mossad never claims to have heard of a member named "Juval Aviv". The book by George Jonas was filmed again in 2005 by Steven Spielberg under the title Munich .
