Done! Tamire Molla (born January 10, 1994 in Enjibara , Amhara ) is an Ethiopian athlete who specializes in long distance and cross-country runs . In 2015 he won the gold medal over 5000 meters at the African Games.

Life

Doneeh Molla comes from the Amhara region in the north-west of Ethiopia, where he grew up with one brother and six sisters. He started running while at school. In 2009 he took part in regional youth championships, where talents are sought for the Tirunesh Dibaba's Training Center , a center for the promotion of young Ethiopian running talents in Assela . His performances were not enough for this and so a year later he was accepted at the nearby Debrebirhan Training Center, which is sponsored by the Ethiopian Athletics Association. His early days there were mainly characterized by injuries, but after some time he was able to qualify for the national running team in an elimination race in the capital Addis Ababa in 2012.

Athletic career

Doneeh Molla started in international long-distance competitions for the first time in 2014. In 2015 he was the first Ethiopian champion over the 5000 meters. He then traveled to the Africa Games in Brazzaville, where he started over the same distance. In a time of 13: 21.88 min he won the gold medal. His start at the Games was not guaranteed for a long time, as he only moved up after a teammate had dropped out.

In 2016 Molla started at the African Cross Country Championships in Yaoundé in Cameroon. He finished sixth in the individual race and won the bronze medal with the Ethiopian team. In June he started at the African Championships in Durban, where he finished fourth in 13: 17.84 minutes. Then it was his goal to get a place in the national running team for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. However, after his father had just died, he was unable to provide the services that would have been necessary and thus missed the Olympics. In March 2017, Molla finished 18th in the adult race over ten kilometers at the World Cross Country Championships in Kampala. In September he improved his half marathon time by more than two minutes to 1:00:34 h. From 2018, he then increasingly competed over the half-marathon distance. In March he finished fifth at the World Half Marathon Championships , which were part of the Valencia Marathon . In August he competed over 5000 meters at the African Championships in Asaba. In a time of 13: 49.06 min he won the silver medal in the final.

In January 2019, Molla set his best time of 2:03:34 h at the Dubai marathon, which, in addition to a new course record, was also the sixth fastest time ever run over the marathon distance. In March he also improved his half marathon time to 1:00:26 h. He then missed the World Championships in Doha, where he wanted to start over 10,000 meters.
