The Gmina Wieluń [ ˈvʲɛluɲ ] is an urban-and-rural municipality in the Łódź Voivodeship in Poland . The seat of the municipality and the powiat Wieluń is the city ​​of the same name ( German Welun ) with almost 23,000 inhabitants.

The Wyżyna Wieluńska karst area is part of the municipality.

history

The city of Wieluń became famous for the extensive destruction with 1200 civilian casualties by German dive bombers at the beginning of the Second World War .

The town-and-country municipality (gmina miejsko-wiejska) Wieluń consists of the eponymous town and 20 villages with a school district office ( sołectwo ). During the time of the German occupation, the villages were given German names:
