Gottfried Junker

Gottfried Junker (born June 18, 1950 in Günzburg ) is a German filmmaker and photographer .

Life

Junker studied law at the University of Würzburg . After passing the 1st state law examination in 1975, he did 18 months of community service in the Kempfenhausen hospital in Munich. He no longer started the legal traineeship , but continued to work as a nursing assistant.

Junker came to film as an autodidact. He made many Super 8 films which he showed and discussed in schools, film clubs and community cinemas.

In 1981, the first 16 mm feature film, Little Characters, was made . The film described a journey on foot through a nameless mountain landscape, without language, with amateur actors and Eva Mattes as a guest.

Junkers first film, Hidden Love , was made in 1985 against the advice of the program director of Bavarian Broadcasting . The black and white film was shot in Crete within 4 weeks , with Peter Cieslinski and Greek children as actors, with no script and almost no language. The improvised film still surprised the film critics, but ultimately only two copies were shown in a few German arthouse cinemas. The film was only shown on the big screen in Japan in 1989, but later ended up on the television channel.

The second and so far last feature film, Das Haus im Gorse , was shot in the south of France in 1991, this time based on a script. It never found its way to the cinema, but was shown at night on German television ( BR , BR alpha , 3sat ).

Junker now worked as a nursing assistant in the nursing home and moved to Vesoul in France for two years in 1995 , where he started a photo-portrait series about visual artists (black and white, negative 6 cm × 7 cm). This photo work includes over 600 encounters with internationally celebrated artists and outsiders.
