Grand Anse Praslin (alternative spelling Grand 'Anse ) is one of the 25 administrative districts of the Seychelles . It is the southern of the two districts on the island of Praslin and with an area of 14 square kilometers it is the smaller, but more densely populated.
etymology
The district is named after the large bay ( French : Grande Anse) in the south . Since the national language of the Seychelles is a French-based Creole language and has only been written down for two decades, the spelling of the district and the main settlement of the same name varies. In the district's official coat of arms, the name is Grand Anse Praslin . The addition Praslin is necessary because there is also a district on Mahé called Grand Anse. There are a total of eight bays with this name in the Seychelles.
geography
The district also includes the islands of Cousin and Cousine in the southwest .
Economy and Infrastructure
The most important economic factor in the district is tourism, although this takes place to a lesser extent than in the neighboring district of Baie Sainte Anne . In Grand Anse there are mostly smaller hotels, but the Lémuria is one of the most luxurious on the Seychelles. There is also the country's only 18-hole golf course , to which players from other islands can be flown in by helicopter. In the northwest is the airport of the island of Praslin, from which flights to Mahé take place several times a day.
Attractions
With the jungle Vallée de Mai , one of two world natural heritage sites in the Seychelles, the district has a first-rate tourist attraction, which it shares with the other island district of Baie Sainte Anne. The Anse Georgette in the northwest is a so-called dream beach, as is the Petite Anse Kerlan . The latter can only be accessed to a limited extent via the Lémuria Resort . A popular tourist destination is Ocean Farm , the only oyster farm in the Indian Ocean where the so-called Tahitian pearls are grown.
