Gregor Dotzauer (born May 13, 1962 in Bayreuth ) is a German literary critic , essayist and cultural editor .

Life

In 1981, after graduating from the modern-linguistic Graf-Münster-Gymnasium , Dotzauer did his community service in the geriatric psychiatry of the Bayreuth district hospital . In the winter of 1982 he began studying German , philosophy and musicology at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . In the winter semester of 1984 he continued his studies at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and completed his master's degree (MA) at the end of 1987 with a thesis on Walter Benjamin's early work on the philosophy of language .

As early as autumn 1985 Dotzauer wrote for the newspapers FAZ , Zeit and the EPD . From 1990 to 1991 he headed the culture department at Elle , from 1995 to 1996 he was the literary editor of the Wochenpost and began work as a literary and film critic for national newspapers such as the Süddeutsche Zeitung , but also for the Frankfurter Rundschau , Die Woche and the news magazine The mirror . Lectureships and workshops on literary criticism took him to the Humboldt University in Berlin, to the Federal Academy for Cultural Education in Wolfenbüttel and, as a scholarship holder, to Washington University in St. Louis .

As an essayist and literary scholar, Dotzauer has written for text + kritik , Kursbuch , Sinn und Form as well as for radio , for example for Deutschlandfunk Köln or Deutschlandradio Kultur . He also moderated panel discussions and discussions with authors .

Dotzauer has been the literary editor of the Berliner Tagesspiegel since 1999 .
