Gregory M. Shreve

Gregory M. Shreve (born August 3, 1950 ) is Professor Emeritus for Modern and Classical Languages ​​at Kent State University at the Institute for Applied Linguistics in the USA . He has also been a lecturer in translation studies at New York University since 2011 . He is co-editor of Translation Spaces magazine .

Life

Gregory M. Shreve was born in Germany as the son of an American military careerist and spent his childhood in various places in the USA ( Fort Leonard Wood , Missouri ; Fort Bliss , Texas ; Randolph County , West Virginia ) and in Germany ( Wiesbaden ; Wertheim ; Worms on the Rhine ; Hanau ).

Shreve is married to Joan Nelson Shreve. They both live in Kent , Ohio and have 3 children together.

Shreve graduated from Arizona State University and received a PhD in Anthropological Linguistics from Ohio State University in 1975 and a Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) from the University of Pittsburgh in 1980 . In the 1980s and 1990s he was a visiting professor at the Universidad de Granada , Spain and the University of Leipzig .

Together with Albrecht Neubert he was the founder and from 1988 to 2004 the director of the Institute for Applied Linguistics at Kent State University and from 2004 to 2009 the chairman of the department for Modern and Classical Language Studies there.

Shreve continues to teach as Professor Emeritus at Kent State University and as a visiting lecturer at New York University.
