Groß Stöckheim is a district of the district town of Wolfenbüttel in the district of the same name in Lower Saxony . The neighboring districts are Fümmelse , Auguststadt and Schwedenschanze as well as the Braunschweig district of Stöckheim-Leiferde and the Salzgitteran district of Thiede .

history

The first documentary mention took place in 1051, when Emperor Heinrich III. (HRR) transferred the church to the diocese of Hildesheim ; it became an archdeaconate church. The archdeacon was also a canon at Hildesheim Cathedral , including Dietrich von Dasle, who was recorded in 1398. The place was regularly the seat of a broadcasting court and a regional court .

The prince-bishopric of Hildesheim was wealthy in the village for centuries. The place was destroyed in the Thirty Years War . After that, the respective duke provided servants here with property.

On March 1, 1974, Groß Stöckheim was incorporated into the district town of Wolfenbüttel.

Culture and sights

  • After the destruction of the place in 1678, a church was built on the site of today's church, which was demolished in 1792 and rebuilt. The nave is still standing today, the tower was renewed in 1892.
  • At the end of the 17th century, the elongated baroque building was erected in the northeast of the village, the so-called "Schriftsassenhof".
  • A burial mound on Leiferder Weg is said to date from before the first millennium.

Transport and infrastructure

Groß Stöckheim can be reached via the Wolfenbüttel northwest exit of federal motorway 36 . The federal highways B 79 and B 248 run on the edge of the village .

The double- track Braunschweig – Bad Harzburg railway runs through Groß Stöckheim . Access to regional transport is available in Wolfenbüttel and Salzgitter-Thiede . The nearest long-distance train station is Braunschweig Hbf .

The village is served by buses from the Braunschweig motor vehicle transport company and local bus companies.

A primary school is located in the village, secondary schools must be attended in Wolfenbüttel. The Wolfenbüttel Municipal Clinic is located in the neighboring district of Schwedenschanze. Deny the club life u. a. the volunteer fire brigade and the men's choir.
