Location of Leinde in Wolfenbüttel
|
Leinde is a south-western district of Wolfenbüttel , Lower Saxony ( Germany ).
geography
Leinde is located in the east of the Hildesheimer Börde , on the northwestern edge of the Oderwald in the immediate western vicinity of the independent city of Salzgitter . It is located between the B 248 in the west and the A 36 in the east. The Braunschweig - Salzgitter-Bad railway line runs through the western edge of the town. Neighboring villages are, starting from the northwest and clockwise: Adersheim , Cramme , Salzgitter-Barum and Salzgitter-Immendorf .
history
The first written mention of Leinde as "Lenethe" comes from 1078.
The church registers begin in the middle of the 17th century and are incomplete at the beginning.
The more recent history of the place is closely linked to that of the Reichswerke Hermann Göring and their successors. From 1941 to the spring of 1944, up to 2,000 female and male Eastern workers as well as civilian foreign workers and prisoners of war were housed in the barracks in the Watenstedt / Leinde subcamp . A memorial plaque for the victims of the satellite camp is located on the B 248 approximately opposite the former entrance to the village.
Since its incorporation, which came into force on March 1, 1974, the place has been the westernmost district of Wolfenbüttel . A chronicle of the place appeared in 2010.
politics
Local council
Since the local election on September 11, 2016, the local council has been composed as follows (changes compared to 2011):
Local mayor
Local mayor is Horst Prediger (CDU).
coat of arms
Four different elements are depicted in the Leinder coat of arms : in the middle of the bridge creek that used to meander through the village from top to bottom - or east to west . In the left half three ears of wheat on a blue background - an indication of the great fertility of the soil, on which demanding crops such as wheat and sugar beet can be grown (the place is in the Braunschweig-Hildesheimer Lössbörde ). On the right-hand side on a red background, a silver host cup is shown in white above and, finally, below, two different crossed hammers with the head upwards - tools with which limestone was extracted from the former quarry on the Oderwald for building foundations and other purposes, as in many the places surrounding the forest was common.
Culture and sights
- Leinde is a typical street village , characterized by its main street, with a predominantly agricultural appearance and some larger half-timbered farms.
- The Evangelical Church "Petrus und Paulus" belongs to the parish association "Salzgitters Norden". With the two weather vanes and the characteristic hipped roof, it is the symbol of the village.
- Today the local daycare center is housed in the old school.
The largest club in the area is the Turn- und Sportverein Leinde eV, founded on November 26, 1946, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2006. There is also an SPD local association (Adersheim / Fümmelse / Leinde) and a volunteer fire brigade as well as a youth fire brigade. The so-called “village flea market ”, which usually takes place in spring, has become a regular facility .
Economy and Infrastructure
In addition to the transport connections mentioned above, Leinde has five bus stops (junction B 248 , Crammer Straße, Friedhof, Hasseltrift, Ort), from where there are regular services to Wolfenbüttel, Salzgitter-Lebenstedt , Klein-Flöthe , Braunschweig or Salzgitter-Bad .
The so-called “hut” ( Salzgitter AG ) and nearby branches of MAN and VW offer employment opportunities .
