The Teufelshörner are two mountains in the Berchtesgaden Alps , composed of the Great Devil's Horn ( 2363 m ) and the Little Devil's Horn ( 2283 m ).
geography
The Große Teufelshorn ( 2363 m above sea level ) is the higher and more northerly summit of the two Teufelshorns and the highest peak in the Hagen Mountains , part of the Berchtesgaden Alps.
The Kleine Teufelshorn ( 2283 m above sea level ) is located southwest of the Großer Teufelshorn.
The devil's horns rise between the basin of the Bavarian Röth and the Austrian Blühnbachtal , both are extremely remote corners. Due to the long approach, the Teufelshörner are rarely climbed, there is a summit cross on each of the two peaks, and they offer a beautiful panoramic view of the Hochkönig , Watzmann and Tennengebirge, among others .
The devil's horns span a rocky ridge that marks the border between the Austrian state of Salzburg and the district of Berchtesgadener Land in Bavaria . A climbing route runs over the demanding rock ridge ( difficulty II according to UIAA ), but it is not marked or secured and can therefore only be recommended to experienced mountaineers.
Ascent
The normal route begins at the Saletalm , which can be reached with a one-hour boat trip across the Königssee . Past the Obersee it goes to the end of the valley called Fischunkel , where the impressive Röthbachfall rushes down. On the partially secured Röthsteig, it is mostly quite steep in many serpentines up to the Wasseralm , an alpine club hut at an altitude of 1423 m that is simply managed in summer . You can stay overnight here, as the entire ascent is long and exhausting in one day. On an initially not difficult path, it continues through the Röth to the fork in the road at 1650 m .
Ascent to the Great Devil's Horn
To get to the Großer Teufelshorn, you have to turn left here and climb a steep, very narrow path. In the last section you have to overcome some easier climbing passages, surefootedness and a head for heights are essential.
On the normal route, the summit of the Teufelshorn can be reached from Obersee in 6 to 7 hours.
Ascent to the Kleiner Teufelshorn
To get to the Kleiner Teufelshorn, you have to continue straight ahead at the fork in the road, sure-footedness and a head for heights are essential.
The summit of the Kleiner Teufelshorn can be reached from Obersee in 5 to 6 hours.
