history
In the literature you can find different information about the first documentary mention. The chronicle shows 1150 and Wolfgang Kahl found Großkromsdorf in 1378 as the first documentary mention. The name Kromsdorf comes from an early owner. In 1580 a three-story renaissance castle was built. In 1694 the dukes of Saxony-Weimar bought the castle and manor and turned it into a chamber manor . In 1664 Kaspar Cornely von Montaigne expanded it. The grounds of the palace gardens in the palace gardens, which have existed since 1580, go back to his son Johann Theodor de Mortaigne. From 1858 the owners changed frequently. Agriculture determined what happened in the village. Later workers and employees moved to the village. Großkromsdorf and Kleinkromsdorf grew together.
On July 1, 1950, the municipalities of Großkromsdorf and Kleinkromsdorf were merged to form a new municipality of Kromsdorf , which in turn was incorporated into the Ilmtal-Weinstraße on January 1, 2019.
