history

Castle

On May 20, 1170 the street village Denstedt was first mentioned in a document. In the Middle Ages the place belonged to the noble family von Dehnstedt, who died out in 1768. The monastery Heusdorf was also a co-owner in the village. The population lived from agriculture, fruit growing and sheep breeding. The reapers house, which still exists today, served as accommodation for the field workers. Around 1600 woad cultivation was in demand. Until the 19th century the place was a manor village with two estates and only three farmers. A mill was mentioned as early as 1170. The school dates from 1579. Denstedt Castle was originally a moated castle .
