history

Grodziec and Grodez were first mentioned in 1227 and 1229, when Tyniec Abbey defended its claim to ownership of the village, although the authenticity of these documents has sometimes been questioned. The name, originally Grodziec , only from the 16th century Groiecz (1569), is derived from the Slavic hill fort (grodziec) , and belongs to the oldest settlements in the area of the former Chrzanów castellany , possibly from the 11th century.

The place initially belonged to the Kingdom of Poland (from 1569 aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania ), Krakow Voivodeship . From 1581 in the possession of the Tęczyński family . When Poland was partitioned for the third time in 1795, Grojec became part of the Habsburg Empire . In the years 1815-1846 the village belonged to the Republic of Krakow , in 1846 it was annexed again as part of the Grand Duchy of Krakow to the countries of the Austrian Empire. From 1855 Grojec belonged to the Chrzanów District .

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Grojec became part of Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . It then belonged to the district of Krenau in the administrative district of Katowice in the province of Silesia (since 1941 province of Upper Silesia ), on the border of the general government in the east (Zalas). From 1975 to 1998 Grojec was part of the Kraków Voivodeship .
