Guido Karl Johann Joachim von Frobel (born May 10, 1848 in Koblenz , † February 5, 1913 in Weißer Hirsch near Dresden ) was a Prussian major general and editor-in-chief of the military weekly .

Life

Guido was the son of the later Prussian Lieutenant General Franz von Frobel (1802-1886) and his first wife Charlotte, born von Holleben (1818-1852). The Prussian major general Friedrich von Frobel (1791–1862) was his uncle.

Military career

Coming from the cadet corps Frobel joined the Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 4 of the Prussian Army on April 18, 1865 as a Second Lieutenant . As such he took part in the fighting at Thrush and the Battle of Königgrätz in 1866 during the war against Austria . Frobel had to interrupt his three-year advanced training course at the War Academy , which began on October 1, 1869, due to the war against France in 1870. He fought with his regiment at St. Privat , where he was slightly wounded, and then took part in the siege of Paris and the battle of Le Bourget . In the meantime promoted to Prime Lieutenant on November 15, 1870 , Frobel was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class, for his services .

After the Peace of Frankfurt he continued his education from October 1, 1871 to July 1, 1873 at the War Academy. Frobel was then transferred to the Kassel War School , where he worked as an office manager and librarian until June 1, 1875 . This was followed by a position as adjutant of the General Inspectorate of Military Education and Training . Left in this command, Frobel was aggregated on April 30, 1877 as captain of the Guards Grenadier Regiment No. 4 and placed à la suite on September 24, 1878 . Left in his command, Frobel belonged to the 4th Guards Regiment on foot from December 21, 1882 to February 3, 1886 and was then transferred as a company commander to the 5th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 65 . After his promotion to major , he was director of the Engers War School from November 13, 1888 to October 17, 1892 . As a lieutenant colonel, he was appointed commander of the 2nd Battalion in the 2nd Kurhessian Infantry Regiment No. 82 and, from January 27, 1894, he was appointed as a regular staff officer in the infantry regiment "Prince Friedrich of the Netherlands" (2nd Westphalian) No. 15 . On March 19, 1896 Frobel received his promotion to colonel . As such, he was commander of the 4th Lower Alsatian Infantry Regiment No. 143 from April 18, 1896 . On August 18, 1898, he was granted a retirement pension and the right to wear the regimental uniform.

After his departure, Frobel lived in Berlin and worked until his death first as an editor and later as editor-in-chief of the military weekly paper. Wilhelm II gave him the character of Major General on January 18, 1901 .

Frobel married Mathilde Möhring (* 1855) on September 1, 1874. The couple had several children:
