Franz von Frobel

Johann Joachim Franz von Frobel (born January 24, 1802 in Rausse, Neumarkt district , † August 31, 1886 in Schlangenbad ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Franz was a son of the District Administrator Johann Nepomuk von Frobel (1755-1809) and his second wife Helene Sophie Caroline von Rabiel (1768-1820). She was a daughter of the Prussian major general Christian Gottlieb Ludwig von Rabiel . The Prussian Major General Louis von Frobel (1791–1862) was his brother and his sister Charlotte (1795–1859) was married to Major General Friedrich Ludwig von Sell .

Military career

Frobel joined the 17th Infantry Regiment (4th Westphalian) of the Prussian Army in Trier in 1818 and was promoted to secondary lieutenant in mid-October 1819 . In 1824/26 he completed the general war school for further training . In the following years he was assigned to the training infantry battalion as well as an adjutant of the 13th Infantry Brigade and the General Command of the VII Army Corps in Münster . Leaving this command and promotion to captain , Frobel was transferred to the adjutantage at the beginning of April 1842. This was followed from the end of March 1847 as a company commander in the 34th Infantry Regiment (2nd Reserve Regiment) . With the promotion to major , Frobel came on March 21, 1848, first to the staff of the 30th Infantry Regiment in Trier and was commander of the fusilier battalion stationed in Saarlouis . He led this in 1849 on the occasion of the suppression of the Baden Revolution in the battles near Durlach , Waghäusel and Oberweier . For his work Frobel received the Red Eagle Order IV Class with Swords and the Commander's Cross of the Order of the Zähringer Lion .

On July 22, 1852, he was appointed second in command of Koblenz and Ehrenbreitstein . In this position Frobel advanced to colonel by mid-October 1856 and was transferred to Danzig as commander of the 5th Infantry Regiment at the end of the month . For a short time he was then from March 15 to October 12, 1859 commander of the 26th Infantry Brigade in Münster, was appointed major general at the end of May and then commander of Rastatt . On October 18, 1861, the day of the coronation celebrations of King Wilhelm I , Frobel was given command of the 3rd Guard Infantry Brigade in Berlin . In this capacity he was awarded the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class, with oak leaves and swords on the ring, on the occasion of the Order's festival in 1863. After being given the character of Lieutenant General, Frobel was finally put up for disposal on January 4, 1864 with a pension .

family

Frobel had married on June 8, 1847 in Trier with Charlotte von Holleben (1818-1852), daughter of the Prussian general of the infantry Heinrich von Holleben . From this marriage the son Guido (1848–1913) and the daughter Charlotte (* 1851) emerged. After the death of his first wife, Frobel married her sister Amalie (1820–1905) on April 27, 1854 in Koblenz .
