Johann Karl Louis von Frobel (born July 11, 1791 in Rausse, Neumarkt district , † February 15, 1862 in Wernigerode ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Louis was a son of the district administrator of the County of Glatz and Herr auf Rausse, Johann Nepomuk von Frobel (1755-1809), and his second wife, Helene Sophie Caroline, née von Rabiel (1768-1820). She was a daughter of Major General Christian Gottlieb Ludwig von Rabiel . The Prussian Lieutenant General Franz von Frobel (1802-1886) was his brother. His sister Charlotte (1795-1859) was married to Major General Friedrich Ludwig von Sell .

Military career

Frobel joined the Prussian Army's "von Braunschweig" infantry regiment as a private corporal in 1805 and took part in the battle of Jena and the defense of Glatz fortress during the Fourth Coalition War. On April 21, 1807, he was a cadet in the III. Battalion of the “von Grawert” infantry regiment and aggregated to the 1st Silesian Infantry Regiment at the end of July 1809 . Frobel retired from the army on June 6, 1811.

He returned in 1813, was employed as a second lieutenant in the 3rd Reserve Battalion of the 1st Silesian Infantry Regiment on March 2, 1813 , but was transferred to the 9th Reserve Infantry Regiment on July 20, 1813. During the Wars of Liberation Frobel fought in the battles near Bautzen , Großbeeren and Dennewitz . He also took part in the blockades in Stettin, Wittenberg, Herzogenbusch and Compiegne as well as the storm on Arnhem. In the battle at the Blue Lock in front of Antwerp , he acquired the Iron Cross, 2nd class. On April 10, 1815, he was transferred to the 3rd Rhenish Landwehr Infantry Regiment as Prime Lieutenant .

After the war he was transferred to the 3rd and 4th rifle departments on March 18, 1816 and rose to captain at the end of June 1825 . On July 6, 1833, he was appointed commander of the 3rd Rifle Division and promoted to major on March 9, 1839 . In recognition of his services during his 28-year garrison time, the city of Wetzlar made him an honorary citizen on September 7, 1846 . On August 24, 1848, he was transferred to the 15th Infantry Regiment as battalion commander and on January 16, 1849, he was appointed commander of the 22nd Infantry Regiment . In this position Frobel advanced to colonel by mid-January 1851 and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern at the end of April 1852 and the Red Eagle Order III in mid-June 1852 . Excellent with a bow. Under awarding of the character as a major general Frobel took his on May 11, 1854 farewell with board . On July 21, 1854, his pension was put up for disposal . He died on February 15, 1862 in Wernigerode and was buried on February 18, 1862 in the Theobaldi cemetery.

In his assessment from the year 1847 it says: “ A moral, highly decent, educated man and a very well informed and just as practically useful officer. Frobel married Marianne von Cramer (1793–1847), a daughter of the Imperial Chamber Court assessor Albrecht von Cramer, in Marburg on February 15, 1821 . She was made an honorary citizen of Wetzlar on September 14, 1846 for her charitable services and the founding of the women's association.

The couple had an adopted daughter: Karoline Wilhelmine von Frobel-Reineck (1819–1873). She was the daughter of Princely Isenburg's Privy Councilor Friedrich Christian Ludwig von Reineck and his wife Sophie Caroline Luise von Dalwigk . On July 21, 1849, names and coats of arms were united with the Prussian cabinet order.
