Friedrich Ludwig Moritz Christian David von Sell (born April 24, 1773 in Burg near Magdeburg , † October 31, 1850 in Glatz ) was a Prussian major general .

Friedrich came from the noble family of sell . He was the son of the Prussian major Ludwig von Sell (1746–1794) and his wife Magdalena, née von Horvath.

Military career

Sell ​​received his school education in his parents' house. On December 10, 1789, he came as a corporal in the infantry regiment "von Wangenheim" of the Prussian Army , to which his father was also a member, and by the end of December 1792 he was promoted to secondary lieutenant . In the First Coalition War , Sell fought in the sieges of Longwy and Verdun and in the Battle of Kaiserslautern , and also in the battles near Bingen , Alzey , Guntersblum and Zweibrücken .

After the war he was promoted to regimental adjutant in 1798 and was transferred to the "von Sack" grenadier battalion in 1804, and in mid-November 1806 was promoted to prime lieutenant . During the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the Battle of Jena as well as in the skirmishes near Kanth and the defense of Glatz . At Glatz Sell became leader of a rifle company in the Freikorps "von Gayle" on April 21, 1807 .

After the Peace of Tilsit he was promoted to captain on July 27, 1808 , and on February 17, 1809 Sell came as a company commander in the Fusilier Battalion of the 2nd Silesian Infantry Regiment (No. 11) . There he became major on April 27, 1812 and took part in the campaign against Russia in the same year . He was wounded in the battle at Garossenkrug, but fought again at Kosakenkrug.

On June 13, 1813 he was appointed commander of the fusilier battalion. During the Wars of Liberation Sell ​​fought in the battles near Dresden , Kulm , Leipzig and the siege of Erfurt (1813) . For the battle at Jeanvillers he received the Iron Cross, 2nd class. On April 10, 1815 he was then commander of the 6th Rheinische Landwehr Infantry Regiment and in this capacity was promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 3, 1815 with a patent from October 16, 1815 . On May 31, 1816 he was accepted into the salaried tribe of his regiment, on November 27, 1817 in the 7th Infantry Regiment and on December 1, 1818 the 14th Infantry Regiment aggregated. On January 15, 1819 he was again aggregated to the 7th Infantry Regiment. With a patent from April 2, 1821, he was promoted to colonel on March 30, 1821 and on July 21, 1822 Sell was appointed commander of the 22nd Infantry Regiment . On September 8, 1827 he was awarded the Service Cross awarded before its Sell on July 8, 1828 farewell as a major general with the statutory pension received. He died in Glatz on October 31, 1850.

Sell ​​married on April 10, 1810 in Silberberg Helene Charlotte von Schleinitz (1773-1810), widow of Friedrich Julius von Seydlitz († 1805). After the early death of his wife, he married on December 24, 1810 on Scheibe Charlotte von Frobel (1795-1859). The couple had several children:
