The Bersenbrück grammar school in Bersenbrück is a grammar school founded in 1969 in the Osnabrück district in Lower Saxony .

history

The Bersenbrück grammar school was founded in 1969 at the request of the Bersenbrück district . First classes 5, 6 and 7 were set up in the building of the former Catholic elementary school. Despite the prevailing shortage of teachers, it was possible in the early years to guarantee an almost complete supply of lessons, while the number of pupils rose from an original 215 to over 900. In August 1970 a "Gymnasium for Women's Education" was established. At the beginning of the 1971/1972 school year, the main building of the grammar school was completed in its current position, and in February 1972 the adjacent sports hall was completed. The mathematical and scientific branch was offered for the first time in the 1972/73 school year. The last construction phase was completed in the 1973/74 school year.

As a result of the school reform with the introduction of the orientation level in Lower Saxony, no more fifth classes were set up from the 1975/76 school year and the reformed upper level with a course system was introduced instead of classroom teaching. The “Gymnasium for Women's Education” branch expired at the same time. As a result of the new upper level regulations, the 11th grade was introduced at the beginning of the 1982/82 school year as preparation for the course system. Since the school year 1993, bilingual lessons have been offered, which make it possible to take history in English and also to take the Abitur exams in English. The school structure reform decided in 2003 led to the abolition of the orientation level and thus to the reintroduction of the 5th and 6th grades from the 2004/05 school year. The students of the then 6th grade will be the first to complete their Abitur after twelve years in the 2010/2011 school year . In addition, the central high school diploma was decided in Lower Saxony and so from the 2005/06 school year the examinations will be centralized for all secondary schools in Lower Saxony. In the run-up to the reform, the headmaster managed to get the subject “Nutrition with Chemistry” as a decentralized examination subject. It is the only grammar school in Lower Saxony that offers this examination subject.

On August 1, 2007, the grammar school became an independent school .

Architecture and buildings

main building

Main entrance of the high school

The first construction phase of the grammar school was completed in August 1971 by local companies after a construction period of nine months. Architectural peculiarities are the use of prefabricated structural elements, which was unusual for the time, and the hall construction, in which the classrooms are only subsequently divided by movable partition walls. The responsible architect was Günther Buttke from Bramsche. An extension was occupied on September 1, 1973 and solved the lack of space that had arisen due to the growing number of students. The outdoor area consists of paths on dike-like embankments between which there are lower-lying areas that are used as play areas.

Sports facilities

The sports hall was completed in February 1972. It has a playing area of 21 × 45 meters, which can be divided into three parts by retractable curtains. There is also a weight room and a dance room with a mirror surface. The sports field is used jointly with the TUS Bersenbrück, the von Ravensberg School Bersenbrück and the vocational schools. You can also row and canoe on the River Hase. The school's boats are stored in a boathouse with its own harbor basin, which is directly adjacent to the school yard.

additional

A new media forum was inaugurated in 2004. It includes an internet café , a central library that emerged from the school libraries of the grammar school and vocational school and the city library, a media laboratory and seminar and training rooms. A cafeteria was completed in 2011.

Educational concept

Comenius project

The school took part in the Comenius projects Food - our Friend, our Future and Historical Heritage Helps Building Europe and is expected to also take part in projects in the Erasmus + education program implemented in 2014.

Billingual lessons

History lessons are also given in English at the Gymnasium Bersenbrück. Abitur exams can also be taken in English.

Promotion of the gifted

Participation in an offer to promote talent at the Gymnasium Bersenbrück is a special opportunity for selected pupils, which was launched six years ago. Since then, the field of talent development has been continuously expanded, so that more and more schoolchildren can take advantage of a variety of promotional offers, from subject-related additional courses to competitions and participation in academies.

Mediators

The mediators are a group of students from grades 9-12 under the direction of Ms. Themann and Mr. Bogers, who have made it their task to settle disputes at our school. Your goal is to conduct a conversation between two conflicting parties in such a way that they manage to resolve the conflict as independently as possible and in a way that is satisfactory for both sides.

Extra-curricular offers

The school offers a variety of working groups outside of normal lessons, including:

  • Rowing team (with own boathouse)
  • Bee AG
  • Big Band "Swing Connection"
  • "Young Voices" choir
  • Soccer AG
  • History bilingual (as a prerequisite for later bilingual lessons)
  • Art AG
  • Orchestra (classical)
  • Chess AG
  • volleyball

Before the compulsory lessons in a working group were abolished, the list was a lot longer, but many working groups had to be closed because the number of participants was too low.
