The Georgianum grammar school in Hildburghausen is one of two state grammar schools in the Hildburghausen district . At the Georgianum, around 770 students in grades 5 to 12 are taught by around 72 teachers.

history

The school was founded on April 30, 1812, and Friedrich Sickler was appointed the first director . As early as September 4, 1877, the school was named Gymnasium Georgianum , named after Duke Georg II of Saxony-Meiningen . After the First World War and the establishment of the state of Thuringia , the school was converted into a secondary school , which from 1933 was called the State High School . The law for the democratization of the German school of 1946 introduced the four-year high school period, the existing classes expired. On February 22, 1949, the school was renamed Geschwister Scholl , and from 1959 it was called the Extended Oberschule (EOS). At the beginning of the 1980s, the school only comprised grades 11 and 12 with around 110 students.

After German reunification , the school was baptized again on October 8, 1991, under its original name, Gymnasium Georgianum , and again had classes from grades 5 to 12.

To accommodate the considerably increased number of students, a new building and an extension was handed over in February 1997.

school-building

School newspaper

From December 1991 the school newspaper Klatsch & Tratsch about Georg was published every six months, at times with a circulation of 1,000. The independent newspaper was available in A5 format and was financed through sales, corporate donations and advertising. After 18 issues and the departure of the chief editor at the time, the project ended in 2000. Although several attempts were made to start over, they failed.

In spring 2007 , a new school newspaper was published in A4 format, later in A5 format, under the name KLARTEXT , which was financed not only through sales and advertising but also by the high school's sponsorship association. Klartext was published quarterly with a circulation of 400, but had to be discontinued due to lack of success.

Just in time for the 200th school anniversary, the newly founded school newspaper DER GEORG appeared at the ceremony on April 26, 2012 with a circulation of 600. The newspaper offers extensive reading material on 60 color pages in A4 format. DER GEORG is financed exclusively through advertisements and sales. The greeting in the first issue was written by the renowned journalist and editor-in-chief of the magazine “stern”, Dominik Wichmann . Fixed rubrics in the half-yearly school newspaper are z. B. "Why, Why, Why", "What is actually doing ..?" And "Campus - The Student Column by Maximilian F. Kapfer". In 2013 the second edition "DER GEORG" was named the best school newspaper in Thuringia.
