Hönnersum is part of the (unit) municipality of Harsum in the Hildesheim district in Lower Saxony .

The place is about 6 km northeast of Hildesheim in the Hildesheimer Börde .
history
Hönnersum was first mentioned in a document in 1380 as "Honershem".
During the Second World War , incendiary bombs fell on Hönnersum on July 26, 1941 , which set off a roof structure on fire. In the Feldmark, 1 km north of the village, two high-explosive bombs fell and caused damage to the fields .
Incorporations
Hönnersum was an independent municipality and was only incorporated into the newly founded municipality of Harsum in the course of the regional reform in Lower Saxony on March 1, 1974.

The Catholic St. Bernward Church , named after Bernward von Hildesheim , was built in 1865/66 as a replacement for a smaller previous building, the Oswald Chapel. The church on Heinrich-Aue-Straße has belonged to the parish of St. Martinus, based in Borsum , in the Borsum-Sarstedt deanery of the Hildesheim diocese since November 1st, 2014 . The Protestant residents belong to the parish of St. Cosmae and Damiani in Rautenberg, 5 km away .

- Vincenz Statz (1819–1898), architect, he was considered one of the most important and influential representatives of neo-Gothic in the Rhineland. From 1864 to 1866 he built the Catholic St. Bernward Church
