religion

The Catholic Chapel of St. John Baptist is named after John the Baptist and is located on Johannesstrasse.

From the Middle Ages on, Klein Förste belonged to the Archdeaconate Vorsethe with the Archdiaconate Church of St. Pankratius in Groß Förste . The Reformation was introduced in Klein Förste around 1555 . From 1570 there were attempts to re-catholicize Klein Förste, in 1586 the first Corpus Christi procession took place after the Reformation. It was not until May 1610 that the re-Catholicization was complete. From 1746 onwards, Klein Förste belonged to the Deanery Förste, which in 1978 was merged into the newly founded Deanery Förste-Sarstedt, which was replaced on December 1, 2002 by today's Deanery Borsum-Sarstedt. After the chapel belonged to the pastoral care unit Hasede-Giesen for a few years , it has been part of the parish of St. Vitus , based in Groß Giesen , since November 1, 2014 .

Today's chapel, built in the 16th century, was created after a previous building was demolished, the date of which is no longer known, but which is also the patronage of St. John the Baptist and was probably destroyed during the Hildesheim collegiate feud . Today's easted chapel stands a little higher on a former cemetery site. In 1908 the apse was added, today a mosaic depicts the Lamb of God with the flag of victory . The tower spire also got its current shape at that time. In 1962, the southern annex enlarged the nave, today's sacristy was also built in this context and a new altar was set up in the apse . The former altarpiece shows the baptism of Jesus ; it was donated by Catarina and Margareta Drosen from Klein Förste in 1685 and is now hanging in the aisle. The chapel also features a Way of the Cross painted on wooden panels . The Mariendenkmal on the south side of the chapel was donated.
